Why Take The Dusty 100 Gravel Challenge?

Why take The Dusty 100 Gravel Challenge on Saturday, May 28, out at Metis Crossing?

Because . . . you'll get to see this:

And this:

And quite possibly these:

Why take the The Dusty 100 Gravel Challenge?

Because . . . bugle. How often do you get a chance to begin a grueling all-day gravel ride with a (badly played) bugle call?

Why take The Dusty 100 Gravel Challenge?

Because rural Smoky Lake County features charms like this:

And this:

And outhouse options that look like this:

Why take the Dusty 100 Challenge?

Because the PetroCan in Waskatenau, the only pit stop on the route, has these in the bathroom:

And these outside the bathroom:

Why accept The Dusty 100 Challenge?

Because . . . the route has tons of history. The Victoria Trail, which makes up about half of the route, is the oldest continuously used road in Alberta. It's dotted with historically significant buildings, plaques, and monuments, the highlight of which is the Victoria Settlement.

Why commit yourself to a long day of dusty bike riding on quiet, scenic roads with friends, old and new?

Because . . . gravel. Need I say more?

  1. I don't want to rain on your gravel parade, Jasper. But me thinks much of the gravel might be mud on Saturday. The Muddy 100? Sounds great!
P.S. So nice to see your post on my special day--Victoria Day!
