  1. So . . . each little grave site has its own fence and gate? What's that about do you think? so cool. I love old grave yards!

  2. We were wondering about that too, Vic. Our theory is that the fence is probably meant to keep cows off the graves, at least originally. Or perhaps that is how the fence tradition got started and now it has become a custom, more symbolic than practical. Not sure if the Lutherans (of Good Hope) have a particular tradition of fenced plots. Maybe someone else knows . . .
